Types of Ecuadorian Visas

All residency paths begin with a Temporary Residency Visa, valid for 2 years and renewable indefinitely. After 21 months, you can apply for a Permanent Residency Visa or renew your Temporary Visa.

Visa Options

Pensionado Visa (Retirement Visa)

Income Requirement: $1,275/month from a pension or retirement fund
Dependents: No additional income required for dependents

Professional Visa

✔ Open to individuals with a 4-year degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD)
✔ Degree must be registered with Ecuador’s SENESCYT before applying
✔ Allows you to work legally or provide professional services

Investor Visa

Investment Required: $45,000 USD deposit in an Ecuadorian bank or real estate investment


Residency & Travel Requirements

Temporary Residency Visa – No travel restrictions
Permanent Residency Visa – Must spend at least 21 months in Ecuador before applying
✔ After obtaining Permanent Residency:

  • Year 3-4: Can leave Ecuador for up to 180 days per year

  • After Year 4: Can leave for up to 2 years at a time


Processing Time

📌 Visa Approval: 30-45 days
📌 Document Collection (FBI checks, apostilles, etc.): Approx. 60 days
