Honduras Rentista & Pensionado Visas – Your Path to Residency

Honduras offers two main residency options for individuals with passive income: the Rentista Visa and the Pensionado (Retirement) Visa. Both provide a straightforward pathway to residency, with minimal physical presence requirements and the opportunity to apply for citizenship after three years.

Visa Options & Requirements

Rentista Visa

For individuals with a stable passive income of at least $2,500 per month, generated either abroad or within Honduras.

Pensionado (Retirement) Visa

For retirees receiving a permanent pension of at least $1,500 per month from a foreign source.

Physical Presence Requirements

To maintain your residency status, you must visit Honduras at least once every 12 months. A short visit—even just one full day—is sufficient to keep your residency active. However, for added security, we recommend staying overnight.

If you are unable to meet this requirement, you may apply for an official exception from the Institute of Migration.

Path to Citizenship

  • You can apply for Honduran citizenship after 3 years of holding residency.

  • While physical presence requirements for citizenship are not explicitly outlined, it may be possible to qualify while spending less than six months per year in Honduras.

  • Honduras is a member of the CA-4 agreement, allowing free movement between El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Guatemala.

Why Choose Honduras?

  • Straightforward residency process with low physical presence requirements

  • A strong passport with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 137 countries

  • Freedom to live in multiple Central American countries through the CA-4 agreement
